V Belt Application and Design Considerations

General

V belts are the workhorse within industry, available from virtually every distributor and adaptable to practically any drive. They are presently available in a wide variety of standard sizes and types, for transmitting almost any amount of load power.

Operation

Typically, V belts drives operate best at speeds between 1500 to 6000 ft/min ( 8 and 30 m/s). For standard belts, ideal peak capacity speed is approximately 4500 ft/min (23 m/s). Narrow V belts, however, will operate up to 10,000 ft/min (50 m/s).

Advantages

V belt drives permit large speed ratios and provide long life. They are easily installed and removed, quiet, and low maintenance.

Roller Bed Conveyor Belts

As the name suggests, the surface of this type of conveyor belt is made up of rollers that are selected to match production requirements, such as the weight or required speed of the products that will move along the belt. Shorter conveyor belts that fall under this type can be made up of just two rollers. However, as the distance between the two ends of the belt increases, more will be needed for the belt to function.

A roller bed setup is suitable for when items are loaded onto the belt with gravity. This is because manual loading can cause mechanical shock and damage the rollers. Roller bed conveyor belts are also a good option for transporting items over long distances as they reduce friction, making it easier for products to move along the belt.

Application: You can use these conveyor belts for packing, sorting, assembling, inspecting, and transporting items. Common applications of roller bed conveyor belts include postal sorting offices and airport baggage handling systems.

Drive your System with Teeth Belt

Teeth belts are one of the most commonly used motion transmitting elements in design applications There are many different types of teeth belt available, with several options for tooth profile, material, color and reinforced cord. Teeth belts are used in various robotic, aerospace, medical, military, and commercial design applications.

We are the global diversified manufacturer that provides advance power transmission products and services, as a supplier, has the largest sleeving account. We stock various belt pitches and materials to select from.

We also have the largest standard sleeves inventory ready to ship next day, or we can give quotes on special widths cut to size. The two main types of tooth profile for synchronous belts are trapezoidal and curvilinear Trapezoidal teeth belts are the industry standard and should be used if mating with a trapezoidal pulley profile, but curvilinear belts have some distinct advantages that make them generally more desirable.

The Advantages of Elastic V Belts

Elastic V Belt Construction

Elastic v belts are constructed in largely the same way as any other standard PV belt, differentiated mainly by their cord material: elastic nylon (polyamide). However, the difference in cord material is not visible to the naked eye, but sometimes branding is included on the belt itself to indicate the material of construction.

Made of rubber or urethane, these belts allow for a certain amount of stretch but, PV elastic v belts don’t stretch as a rubber band does; their elongation capability is generally less than 4%.

Elastic V Belt Structure

Featuring an elastic nylon cord, these belts are each engineered for a specific drive according to the power characteristics of the machine. Commonly provided in rubber H and J pitches, as well as polyurethane H, J, and TB2 pitches, the belts feature high flexibility and offer the benefit of a smaller wrap angle on the drive pulley.

Elastic V Belt Benefits

Since elastic PV belts can be stretched onto a drive and automatically adjust to correct tension upon installation, they offer a wide range of benefits for various applications.

Firstly, these belts are specifically designed for operation on a fixed center distance application, eliminating the need for tension idlers and slide adjustment.

The drive’s fixed center distance also allows for easy automation and robotic installation. For driver pulleys, a smaller wrap angle can be used.

Elastic v belts act as damping springs, they’re capable of absorbing temporary overloads with minimal noise and vibration ensuring quiet, smooth operation.

Because these belts don’t require tensioning devices, fewer quality issues arise due to incorrect belt tension. This helps cut down on labor, as workers aren’t required to have the skills necessary to apply correct tension during the assembly process; the need for manual installation labor can be eliminated through the use of robotic installation methods. All of these features allow for lower overall costs.

Exceptional power transmission belt

We have developed the power transmission belt range in close co-operation with users and OEMs. As a result, it can offer a market-driven range of types that can handle all sorts of power transmission in every industry.

Different materials for the friction and top coating are combined with one of the three tension member materials – A (aramide) – E (polyester – also helically-wound endless) or – P (polyamide) Producing a varied range with ideal properties for each and every application.

Power transmission belts are extremely tough, elastic, absorb vibrations and shocks and can be used at belt velocities of up to 100 m/s.

Compared with other power transmission belts, they are easy to handle, extremely efficient and have a high level of synchronisation accuracy. Apart from traditional pulleys, they can easily handle bevel and cone drives and drive several shafts, even in different rotational directions.

Drive Belts for Industrial Applications

Benefits & features

With Continental drive belts and sprockets, you get more of what you pay for with each energy dollar. This is especially true when is applied to high-energy consuming drives that are used 24 hours a day, as well as high horsepower drives that inflate energy consumption during peak periods.

Matching drive belt to sprocket

The part numbering system is simple and easy. Just match the drive belt’s width and pitch length to that of the sprocket and select the preferred number of grooves/teeth to provide the desired performance characteristics.

Timing Belt | Advantages, Applications

Timing belt is a special kind of belt (with teeth) which is used to transfer rotary motion from one shaft to another.

We know that there are several methods by which we can transfer rotary motion of one shaft to another. For example, Gears, ropes, belts (without teeth) etc.

Timing belt is generally taken as a sub-type of belts. Timing belts carry accuracy of gears and cheapness of belts.

As we can see in above picture it contains teeth like gears which provides positive engagement with the pulley. Timing belts are used with special types of toothed pulleys which are specially designed for a particular timing belt.

Timing belt got its name from from its ability to transfer motion at the exact preset timing.

Advantages of timing belt

  • Delivers precise motion with accurate timing
  • Almost no vibrations produced
  • No slip problem
  • No noise generation which transferring g power
  • Very high mechanical efficiency up to 98%
  • No need of lubrication as compared with gears
  • Very cheap as compared to gears
  • No problem of rusting or corrosion
  • Weight is less
  • Safe to use

Applications of timing belt

  • They are used with encoders
  • They are used in cars, treadmills, sewing machines
