A timing belt is a component of a synchronized drive that presents an integral class of drives. In terms of characteristics, these drives utilize the positive bonding of two sets of the meshing teeth. Therefore, they don’t get slipped, and there is no comparative movement between the two components in the mesh. Because of this characteristic, various parts of the drive remain at a constant speed and maintain constant ratio or even an unchanged relative position. This is quite important in many applications like automatic machinery where a particular motion indexing or sequence is there.
The positive linking of these drives makes them able to shift big torques and bear high accelerations. Belt drives are notably useful in those applications where flexibility in layout is essential. They make the designer able to accommodate parts in more beneficial locations at bigger distances without a need to pay a price penalty. Motors that are often the largest heat source can be put away from the entire mechanism. Getting this with a gear train will present a costly solution.

Neoprene timing belts
The Neoprene timing belts are usually applied in drive technology where a slip less synchronous drive is needed. Kevlar timing belts
These belts are high performing. These belts are 300 times powerful than original equipment belts and are ideal to use in the installation of camshafts and cylinder heads. These belts ensure heat resistance and high durability as well, along with providing excellent tooth strength and additional wear resistance. The Kevlar timing belts also possess great stretching ability as compared to other belts. Along with high heat resistance, they offer enhanced bending flexibility at the same time.
Polyurethane timing belt
These timing belts show excellent resistance against wear and tear. These belts have a low coefficient of friction and less compression set. These are ideal to apply in projects where oil and ozone resistance is required. The usually work best at low temperature as well and show enhanced flexibility in various kinds of applications. However, these belts should be used with caution in projects involving high temperature since these features might not work well in such condition.
Double Sided Belt
These belts are developed in double sided designs, which give an unlimited number of new design ideas on business machines, computer equipment, textile machines, office equipment and other light duty applications. If these belts have nylon facing on both of their sides, then the similar design factors can be applied for the drives on belts’ both sides.
